Deepfake AI has been used to replace every face with my own, erasing the identities of the Cisgender women and men from the reclaimed film, these unknown figures from the past instead becoming actors that tell a uniquely Transgender narrative.
This piece was born of a desire to adapt the folk tale “The Queen in the Cave” into something surrounding gender transition. Combined with the projection, the final installation is meant to have an ethereal or otherworldly quality, as though stumbling into something in a dream that nearly makes sense, but wouldn’t mean a thing once you had awoken again.
